Transexuales y Transgéneros bucan reforma en el género de la Cédula

Esta tarde, el colectivo de transexuales y transgéneros presentará en la Asamblea una reforma a la Ley del Registro Civil para que les permitan registrar en su cédula el género que adoptaron y no con el que nacieron.

Franchesca Jara, de 47 años, aunque luce como una mujer, legalmente es un hombre.

Nos encontramos con ella en la cafetería de un hotel de Quito donde poco después se reunirá con otras transgénero y transexuales para discutir la nueva Ley de Registro Civil.

Muestra su cédula. Ahí se llama Luis y aparece la M indicando que su sexo es masculino. Para ella no representa solo un dato, sino muchos malos momentos como el día de su graduación.

Otro momento que odia es cuando tiene que sufragar.

Por eso, junto a trans de todo el país impulsa la campaña denominada ‘Mi género en mi cédula’, que pretende cambiar la Ley del Registro Civil, reforma que presentarán la tarde de este jueves en la Asamblea Nacional.

La abogada Elizabeth Vásquez está detrás de esta propuesta, que ha sido trabajada arduamente en talleres.

Dicen que obtener el género en la cédula será un primer paso para evitar miles de trabas que les ponen para acceder a salud, vivienda o educación. Así le pasó a Jeyco, un trans masculino que tuvo que abandonar sus estudios.

Saben que la tarea es ardua y que lograr este cambio legal tomará su tiempo. De obtenerlo, Ecuador se convertiría en el primer país del mundo que reconoce el género y no el sexo en la cédula.
